About fluid paths and connections Most of the engineering in a fluid path is in the joints, and most of the risk is in what could be connected to what.

Why connectors are a safety subject

A connector that mates with an unintended system is a misconnection hazard, and it has historically been a fatal one. That is the reason small-bore connectors moved to an application-specific series rather than one universal taper.

Choosing a connector is therefore a decision about which systems must NOT connect, as much as about which must.

Dead volume and priming

Every fitting, valve and manifold adds volume that has to be primed and then either delivered or wasted. In a low-volume delivery this is a functional requirement, not a detail.

It also sets how hard the path is to clear of air, which is usually the thing a user actually complains about.

Standards that actually apply

ISO 80369
Small-bore connectors for liquids and gases. The series exists specifically to make cross-application misconnection physically impossible.

Listed because they bear on the choices above — not as a compliance checklist, and not as advice about which apply to your device.
