About consoles and capital hardware The console is usually the part of a system that is designed last and lives longest, and its constraints come from the room rather than from the procedure.

The enclosure is a set of compromises

It has to be cleanable with the same aggressive chemistry as everything else in the room, which rules out many finishes and most exposed fasteners. It has to move, which sets castor size and where the mass can sit. And it has to dissipate heat without drawing dirty air across anything that matters.

These pull against each other: sealed is cleanable but hard to cool, and vented cools but collects.

Cables and connectors are the wear items

The enclosure will usually outlast every cable attached to it. Flex life at the strain relief, and how easily a damaged cable can be replaced in the field, are worth deciding early — they are cheap to design in and expensive to retrofit.

Anything patient-contacting or crossing an isolation boundary carries requirements the rest of the harness does not, so it is worth knowing which conductors those are before the harness is drawn.

Standards that actually apply

IEC 60601-1
Basic safety and essential performance of medical electrical equipment. The general standard, and the one that governs the isolation strategy.
IEC 60601-1-2
Electromagnetic disturbances — the collateral standard that usually drives cable, shield and connector choices.

Listed because they bear on the choices above — not as a compliance checklist, and not as advice about which apply to your device.

Console enclosure, schematic arrangement An isometric wireframe of a mobile console: a rectangular enclosure on castors, with a display panel occupying the upper front face, a row of three connector ports below it, and a cable leaving a strain-relieved gland on the right-hand side. Proportions are illustrative — this shows which parts a console has and how they are arranged, not what size any of them are.
Illustrative arrangement. This shows which parts a console has and how they sit together — it is not dimensioned, and nothing here is to scale.

Machined Components

↑ Grid
Key Specs: material, tolerance

Turned and milled parts — the general class that covers most reusable-instrument hardware.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Console Haptic Encoder Knobs

↑ Grid
Key Specs: detent torque, IP65 sealed, optical pulses

Sealed panel-mount rotary optical encoders with calibrated mechanical tactile detents for controlling energy, speed, and settings.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Waterproof Dual Footswitches

↑ Grid
Key Specs: IPX8 waterproof, Cut/Coag pedals, shielded

Heavy-duty immersion-proof foot controls with color-coded pedals (yellow cut / blue coag) for hands-free surgical activation.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Peristaltic Multi-Roller Pump Heads

↑ Grid
Key Specs: 3-roller / 4-roller rotor, hinged cover, tube occluder

Positive-displacement rotor assemblies whose rollers compress sterile tubing against an outer track to move fluids without touching pump mechanisms.

2xMOPP Medical Switching Power Supplies

↑ Grid
Key Specs: 4000 VAC isolation, <100µA leakage, IEC 60601-1 3rd ed.

Open-frame and enclosed AC/DC power supply modules engineered with double patient insulation (2xMOPP) and low earth leakage currents.

Glove-Operable PCAP Touch Panels

↑ Grid
Key Specs: projected capacitive, optically bonded glass, water-rejection

Industrial projective capacitive touchscreens tuned with high touch sensitivity to allow accurate surgeon gestures through double surgical gloves.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement
No suppliers listed for this category yet.

IP68 Cleanroom Sealed Cooling Fans

↑ Grid
Key Specs: brushless DC, potting-encapsulated motor, low acoustic noise

Fully potted, moisture- and chemical-proof axial cooling fans delivering quiet forced-air cooling for sensitive medical laser and console electronics.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement
No suppliers listed for this category yet.

Cables

↑ Grid
Key Specs: conductors, shield, jacket

Multi-conductor assemblies. Conductor count and gauge set the electrical job; the jacket and shield usually get chosen by what the cable has to survive rather than what it has to carry.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Connectors

↑ Grid
Key Specs: keying, cycles, ingress

Mating hardware. Keying decides what it will NOT connect to, which is usually the safety-relevant half of the choice; mating cycles and sterilisation compatibility decide whether it survives the service life.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Cable Ties & Strain Relief

↑ Grid
Key Specs: retention, flex life

Ties, clips, grommets and strain reliefs. The strain relief at a connector is where a cable harness actually fails, so it is worth specifying rather than inheriting.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Medical Isolation Transformers

↑ Grid
Key Specs: IEC 60601-1, leakage < 100µA, toroidal

Toroidal isolation transformers with reinforced double insulation preventing electrical shocks and patient leakage currents.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

Sanitary Solenoid Pinch Valves

↑ Grid
Key Specs: zero-dead-volume, non-wetted, 24V DC

Solenoid-operated external pinch valves clamping flexible medical silicone/PVC tubing without contacting process liquids.

Supplier Stated Capabilities & Technical Focus Evidence Procurement

IEC 60601-1-8 Audible Alarm Sounders
